No Amount of Words

Have you ever taken a vacation somewhere or seen something that is hard to find the words to describe what you just saw? Maybe you have visited a place that was so beautiful, so grand and so breathtaking. The smells in the air are ones you wish you could bottle up. The sounds you hear are soothing to your ears. The feeling of a warm breeze hitting your face makes you feel relaxed. Maybe you have witnessed a baby being born. The overwhelming feelings and emotions that you have right in that moment are just to hard to put into words. Maybe you saw the most vibrant sunset you have ever seen but can’t find just the right words to describe the colors that your eyes were able see. How do you describe something to someone who wasn’t there to make them feel like they were right there with you? Will they really have the same feelings you had when you were in the moment? Will they really feel the emotions you experienced? Will they feel the warm breeze and smell the same smells you smelled? Will they really see what you saw with your own eyes? No, they won’t fully be able to have those same feelings towards the beauty because it’s not something they have experienced. You can spend hours upon hours using descriptive word after descriptive word to try and describe everything to them but until they have experienced it themselves, nothing you say will ever make them excited about it like you are.

Oh how I long for others to see the joy and peace that comes with having God be the center of life. Billions for dollars are spent trying to search for the meaning of life. Satellites are built. Computer systems are created. People are hired. Why? To spend hours upon hours to look into deep space in hopes that there is some type of answer. Maybe there is life on another planet. Maybe they will tell us what the meaning of life is. Maybe there is an end to the space and then we have an aha moment thinking we have found the answer. Maybe just maybe deep space will solve all of our problems but it won’t. No amount of money or time will answer the longing questions that the world has. Why? Because they are looking at through the lens of what they want to find instead of what is there. They are denying the reality that a Creator made it because they are witnessing something second hand. They are the person you are describing the beauty of what you saw to but can’t join in your excitement because they haven’t seen it with their own two eyes. They can’t experience the joy and beauty because they are too busy find this meaning of life instead of trusting in the fact that everything points to a Creator.

As a christian, it is hard to fully put into words what having true peace feels like. What it means to have peace. What it means to rest in Christ and know that no matter what, death is not the end but the beginning. We all are working towards something but what are we working for? What are we laboring for? What is purpose of what we do? Our primary purpose is to Glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Our eyes have seen time and time again His handiwork. Our ears hear His song when the birds sing in the morning and when the wind rustles through the trees. We have a longing to be with Him and despite our earthly shortcomings, we will meet Him face to face one day. Oh what a day that will be. We don’t need to spend billions searching for something that is free. Salvation and trust are free. All that is needed is an open heart and faith to trust what can’t be explained.

Psalm 119:1- The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And the expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
